Leonardo da Vinci: Faces of the Genius, curated by one of the big Leonardo Da Vinci experts, the Spanish actor, television presenter and writer Christian Gálvez, is the only exhibition in the world endorsed by the Leonardo DNA Project. It involves a team of geneticists, historians, archaeologists and other experts that wish to reveal da Vinci mystery using his DNA for his 500th death anniversary. You will be able to discover the unknown information about the artist and his work, dreams, achievements and failures as an artist within an apparently unfinished architecture.
The main venue for Leonardo da Vinci: Faces of the Genius exhibition is the Palacio de las Alhajas, headquarters of the Montemadrid Foundation, which will house prints that formed part of different books published on the life and works of the artist. Tavola Lucana, shown for the first time in Spain, is one of the main attractions of this exhibition. It is a portrait discovered in 2009 by the historian Nicola Barbatelli and the experts claim that is it the only one that meets all the requirements (historical, literary, artistic and scientific) to be considered the true self-portrait of the Florentine artist.
The other venue for Leonardo da Vinci: Faces of the Genius is the National LIbrary with free entrance, which will open a new exhibition space for the event, which has been used by researchers up to now. There you can find the Madrid I and Madrid II Codices, 2 manuscripts where the artist left his mark in some of the topics he ended up mastering, such as engineering, mechanics and art. Moreover, you will see the reconstructions of the machines shown in the codices and his biggest projects: the enormous horse designed for Ludovico Sforz.
