Over 31,000 people enjoyed one hundred performances and activities at the last year edition of JAZZMADRID, whose main hubs were Conde Duque Cultural Centre and Fernán Gómez Centro Cultural de la Villa theatre, which will once again serve as the event’s main venues. One new feature was the inclusion of blues in its broadest sense, from the traditional style of Corey Harris to the more electric and cosmopolitan sound of Bronx-born guitarist Popa Chubby.
Past editions of JAZZMADRID festival have showcased jazz greats such as Hiromi Uehara, Gregory Porter, Robin McKelle, Niño Josele and Javier Colina, among many others. This year's line-up will feature top artists such as Dee Dee Bridgewater, Daymé Arocena, Becca Stevens, Steve Coleman, Vieux Farka Touré, Jean Luc Ponty, Ron Carter, Sheila Jordan, Jonah Smith & David Soler and Lila Downs.
In addition to one hundred performances, there will also be parallel activities at JAZZMADRID connected to jazz such as debates, films and exhibitions by experts on the cultural life of jazz and its criticism in Spain. It's a great opportunity to come out and hear and enjoy jazz music at a festival that will feature melodies of differing styles from different cultures, in addition to showcasing new talents.
